This is a pumpkin carving pattern for Frankenstein's monster, as portrayed by Boris Karloff in the 1931 film Frankenstein.

If you carve this, please give credit for the pattern. I'd also like to see how it turns out if you take photos.

READING THE PATTERN: Parts in black should be cut out completely. Parts in grey should be scored (remove the skin and some of the flesh, but don't cut all the way through). This is how you can achieve shading on pumpkins. In the top-right corner, you can see a mock-up of how the pumpkin would look when carved.

Here is how it looked when I carved it in 2008: [link]

OK, this pumpkin carving project may have been way beyond my skill level, but it was the coolest one I found on the internet so I went for it. It took me approximately four hours and before I turned off all the lights and lit it with a candle, I thought I was a complete failure. I am amazed by the result even though it is nowhere near as awesome as the one you carved. I am impressed by the design of your pattern. I would attach a picture but I can't figure out how.

If you're able to take a photo, I would love to see it. I find that the pumpkin photographs best when you use a bright, steady light source, such as a flashlight. (I mount two small flashlights on the sides so that they are not visible in the photograph.) Take the picture in complete darkness with the flash off, ideally with a tripod.
